Reality Of One-Sided Love!

What is Love?

If you want a typical definition of love, you can easily find it on any website on Google. But can it really be explained in words? The answer is NO. It's a feeling that cannot be explained in words; it can only be felt. It is the most wonderful feeling in the universe, and every person deserves to be treated right. It feels so good to be loved the way you love someone. But sometimes things don't go as we planned them 🙁.

I believe everyone can agree that one of the most awful feelings ever is efforts that are not reciprocated.  It is painful to think that when you say "I love you," all you will hear is silence. It may result in a traumatic experience to become attached to somebody in a manner that isn't reciprocated. But any situation in which you have feelings for someone and they are unable to reciprocate back can be hurtful, even if the rejection isn't obvious right away.

Why Do You Love Them?

The world's most wonderful feeling is being in love.

But it can be quite painful if that feeling is not returned.

I guess most of us remember a moment when we liked somebody and they felt the same way. But falling for someone is a whole different thing from just having a crush on them. Also, though unrequited love happens commonly and to all kinds of people, past experiences of unfulfilling, nonreciprocal relationships may increase the probability of dating someone who lacks the same level of commitment as you.

This kind of feeling is sometimes referred to as one-sided love. It could be that the person is rejected by others or that they are unable express their feelings. In any case, the individual is deeply hurt.

Falling for someone who doesn't know how to return back the feelings is awful but may be you are not entirely in love with them, you are just in love with the idea of being with them in simple words it can be just a little attraction. It is really important to figure out your feelings first before expressing it to the other person. Sometimes, knowingly or unknowingly a person do little things out of kindness which makes us believe that may be it is more than friendship and we give it a title.

Bollywood Movies And One-Sided Love

Bollywood has surely raised our expectations when it is to come to visualizing LOVE. We all dream of having that Bollywood movie wala pyaar but let's just face the reality. Bollywood has not only visualized being in love but it has also depicted what "one-sided love," feels like. There are plenty of movies which shows the authenticity of one-sided lover so gracefully that for once even i thought that it's not bad to be a one- sided lover.

Let's take a look at a few movies and try to understand and find the answer to our question 🤓

🗻Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani

When we talk about this movie, the few things that click first are "Bunny and Naina," "Manali Trip", and, "Friendships," and somewhere we forget that there were more characters in the movie too and they also have their own story in the movie itself. Aditi has a soft corner for Avinash, but later on, she realizes that the way she feels for him, he can never have feelings for her in the same way, and in the end, she finds her soulmate she always dreamed of in Taran's character.

🪩 Cocktail

This movie is so underrated yet so good. Most of the reels on Instagram are about the friendship breakup, betrayal that were portrayed in the movie. Veronica's character was in a casual relationship with Gautam's character, and even after knowing everything she fell for him. Turns out, Gautam was never in love with her, instead, he has feelings for Meera- her best friend. She understood the whole situation but the little girl inside her was hurt.

💔Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

The OG movie, which fits so well when we talk about one-sided love. Ayan who misunderstood Alizeh's friendship as love and was heartbroken after he find out that Alizeh only consider him as her friend and she loved someone else. A lot of people related with this movie and felt Ayan's pain through the screen.

🌷Meri Pyari Bindu

Such a beautiful movie this is. This movie not only portrayed the one- sided love but it also showcased the platonic friendship between a guy and a girl. Abhi falls for Bindu but he never confessed his feelings to her. His entire life he was only hoping to be the one for Bindu but it never happened.

Why Does It Hurt So Much?

"Ek tarfa pyar ki taqat hi kuch aur hoti hai … auron ke rishton ki tarah yeh do logon mein nahi bat’ti … sirf mera haq hai ispe."

It hurts to be with someone who doesn't reciprocate back because you deserve so much more than just bare minimum. It's not a good thing to settle for less or settle for something where your feelings are not reciprocated and respected. It hurts, when you know that the person you love so much, adore so much doesn't reciprocate back or feel about you in a certain way.

There are many reasons for "why does it hurt so much?" Although the individual reason for each hopeless romantic varies from each lover, here is a list of reasons why you may feel that your heart is heavy all the time.

Hope:

Many people who experience unrequited love continue in hoping that the other person will eventually change their mind, and start feeling for them in the same way. This hope can be equally comforting because it maintains the chance for a relationship and painful because it causes the pain of unfulfilled feelings and efforts.

Comparison:

It hurts to see a person we love having feelings for someone else. It makes us question our own self worth and it leads to jealously, self doubt, and lack of confidence. We start comparing ourselves with the other person and starts behaving like them just to impress that person.

Uncertainty:

When you have deep feelings for someone and you know that they don't feel the same way about you, you will develop a feeling of uncertainty which is very normal. Not knowing where you both stand can be really stressful. You starts questioning your own feelings at that point which leads to anxiety.

How To Get Over Them?

It is tough to get over someone with whom you were not even in a relationship. It's easy to say that "it was just one-sided, get over it". But only the person knows how hard it is.

It is hard but at one point or another you have to get over them and move on with life, maybe God has planned something better for you so it's important to acknowledge your feelings, feel every emotion, and experience every stage of healing.

Conclusion:

Being in love with someone who is unable to reciprocate may be a very difficult and sometimes awful experience. It calls for a delicate balance between acceptance, self-care, and realizing that you are powerless to alter the thoughts, feelings, or actions of others.

It's really important to realize your self-worth and put yourself first. If someone is not good for your mental well being then ultimately your body will reject that person.
